Default runnin rich

my 740 is running without the maf. i have wiring issues which allow it to run very rich without the maf. (it barely runs with it) the idle is fair, and it accelarates good. but there is black smoke and my gas milage stinks.

my Q is this, can i make some adjustment to lower the fuel amount?
i need to lower it all the time, not just when it is at idle.
i have put a cone filter on the intake(no maf) in a attempt to increase the air flow and make the air/fuel ratio better, but i really need to lower the fuel going in.

i know i could just buy a new maf, but i dont have the cash. this 740's been hit at least three times! but i wont give up on it yet.

will running rich cause any damage? i know running lean is really bad.

please help.

update. i ran my poor car for a few months like this. now i have a new maf. but i just bought back a 740 i owned a year ago, and it seems faster. i wonder if the rich condition hurt the rings? the car runs smooth, but with less power. i didnt notice cause it was a loss over time, but now that i have my old one back(i owned that at the same time once and they felt the same then) i can feel a lot less power in the one that ran rich for a while.

no big deal, just thought that it was interesting. it speaks of how strong the 740 engines are! such neglect, yet it still runs good with only a small loss in power. try that with a ford!

Maybe the turbo on the one worn.

Some are like that. I test drive many some feel like N/A cars and others wil break the tires loose.
Do they both have the same style turbo's?
