Default Shift Control Lever

I have a 91 240. My automatic trans.shift lever just started sticking. The only way I can get the car in gear.Is to take the cover off and move the lock lever to the side.I noticed that the button on the top of the lever seems a little stiff. What could be the problem ?
Thanks

I have never taken the one in my Volvo out but on other cars there is a plastic push rod that goes in between the button and the locking mechanism. It is worth looking into.

I would go to a junk yard andd pull one and see how it is funtioning. You may find yours is not doing something. Do you have a Haynes Manual? It gives an exploded diagram, no trouble shoting but it does have the diagram.

And the answer is.A burned out fuse.I noticed that my brake lights were out also. The brake lights and the shift lock release are on the same fuse.

Thaks for the help.
