Default 93 940 Shift lever removal

I want to change the plate at the base of the shift lever in my 940 turno-it has the PRNDL12 on it and a button to push for the shift lever lock. Mine is cracked. Anyway the local junkyard had one in a car with the tranny out already-I reached in and it pulled straight up and out. Came home with my new prize and couldnt figure out how to get the shift lever/**** off to put this piece on-please help.

Then you are in for alot of work/trouble.
The entire assembly has to be taken apart. The wires from the overdrive button run from the switch to inside the car. They are soldered to the switch. Then run inside the **** and out the botton then through the side of the shifter bucket and to the passenger side of the car. You need to have the bucket out of the car and take it all apart.
