Default shift **** locked up in a 95 940

for some reason the button on my shift **** wouldnt release, leaving me stuck in park. we figured out that the only way to get it to move is to hold down the shift lock override, anybody have any idea whats going on?

thanks

The solenoid in the shifter assembly might be stuck open.

You have to remove the center console and possibly the entire shifter assembly.
