The shift lever on my 98 S70 recently locked in park and now I have to push the shift lock button every time to unlock it and be able to move the lever into R/N/D etc. I am thinking this has to do with the lock mechanism for the shifter and steering wheel that is part of the key assembly? Any answers...? The car has 168K on it and has been well maintained.

There is a micro switch under the console that goes bad at times.
