Should I replace my water pump???
Sorry to hijack this thread but im in a need of a quick answer . 93 240 stationwagon 2.35 gas engine. Im in the process of changing out my alt belt and noticed that the water pump makes a squeeling sound when the shaft is turned. no water weeping from the wheepin hole and no water leaks thru the seal. car has 117kmiles on it. No record of the water pump being replaced. Does make that squeeling sound. should i replace the water pump ?

You have mine, too. It's standard procedure on most FWD cars to change the water pump when you do the timing belt, mainly because most of the water pumps are driven by the timing belt and it would be highly annoying to have the water pump go out two weeks after you did the belt. One nice thing about our Volvos is that you do not have to remove the timing belt to change the water pump, since it has it's own belt. Timing belts are supposed to be changed every 50K, so it's probably not necessary to do the water pump every time, but in your particular case, I'd probably go for it. Be extra careful with the rubber seal on top, which has great potential for leaking if not seated perfectly. Found this out the hard way..
