Exclamation Skid Plate Bolt Size 1989 Volvo 240 dl

Hi I recently took the skid plate and bolts off of my 1989 Volvo 240 DL, I was just wondering if anyone knows what bolts I need to put in place of the old ones, they were in pretty rough shape so it just seemed like a better idea to replace them. I guess I probably need to know what course they are as well, I just would like to be specific when I go to buy them. Thanks in advance if u could help.

wow I am really puzzled here, an entire forums worth of mechanics and volvo enthusiasts and not a single person has ever put a skid plate back on the bottom of a volvo 240?! All I need to know is the bolt size, I live in the winter right now in maine and my engine is getting soaked on the bottom of the block because it is wide open, PLEASE HELP

I'm not too good with bolt sizes. I replaced mine by taking one of the old ones down to the hardware store and matched it up. Keep in mind it's a metric size.

^^This. Even mechanics find it simpler to take the bolt and find the corresponding nut to determine proper size. If you have lost the bolts and/or it's too nasty outside to crawl under the car, you could always get them from Volvo for a few bucks...part # is 949113

Hey, thank for your help because you just made my near years! I have been trying to figure this out because the person that helped me take apart the car in the beginning was very rip and tear on the car and tossed the bolts and was unable to help me finish the job, but overall i replaced my radiator,Distributor Cap,Plugs and Wires,Did a fresh oil change, changed the flame trap, put on new front tires, replaced the alternator, installed 4 new brake lines, put in a new battery and air filter, I bought a new water pump but I was not able to remove the bolts that came after I removed the fan because they were torqued on there and I didn't want to round them off trying so I may work on that in the spring. I have driven the 240 for the last few days it has run great but I still suspect the cooling system needs work because since I drove it again after it sat for at least a year and now the temp begins to spike at random times, it doesn't hit the red but is about a centimeter below it above the white dot. I usually just pull over for a second and turn the heat on and it does back down and does not do it again during that trip. But I am hoping to pinpoint the problem so I don't have to worry about it anymore

sounds like you may still have air in the system or else the thermostat is bad.

I agree, The thermostat is brand new so I don't think that is it. If i do have air in there what can i do to work it out?

I ordered the skid plate bolts and have been driving the car daily and the temp has only been going slightly above running temperature and has been running awesome, but I am thinking putting the skid plate on it will make it run cooler because the air will be going straight through the radiator and not under the car, but it handled this first winter storm awesome so I am pretty happy and looking to keep up with maintenance, a new black paint job and black window tint and probably a decent cd player from crutchfield
