SOLVED!! 1992 740 Wagon Non Turbo: Stalls Making a Right Turn???
It won't do it when the tank is full but will when it gets down a couple of gallons. Only does it on a right hand turn but not a left turn. Could it be the in tank fuel pump?
I have the exact same problem in my fuel-injected '75 245. It never used to do it even when the tank got real low. If you keep it in gear on a tight turn do you lose power? When I do that it just starts to misfire a little bit, but I don't lose power. For this reason I think I'm losing ignition on turns and not fuel. I'm still clueless beyond that.
Depending on how far down the tank has gotten how badly it dies. I let it go down 6 gallons from full yesterday and it started to die when I was braking.
We checked the pump and it is running. We think it may be the pickup tube but cannot pull it all out until I make another trip to work and take down some fuel level to avoid spilling.

Check the intank fuel pump it might be bad.

Is it possible that the intank pump is on it's way out?
Is therea sump in the tank that the pumpneeds to go in and we are possibly putting it in at an angle and missing it completely?
My buddy said to change out the filter but I can't see how that would affect this since it acts normally when the tank is full.

Did you change the in-tank pump hose? The 3" fuel hose.

Update:
Changed out the fuel pressure regulator because I smelled gas at the vacuum line and it's running a little better. It still dies on right hand turns but not after 3 gallons of comsumption but around 4.5 gallons now so it's not as bad.
I have a feeling that the in tank fuel pump is just weak. It has been changed out at least once before because of the wiring being cut so I am going to replace it with a new Bosch pump and see if that does the trick.
I don't know what else it could be.

Problem fixed!
The pickup was not attached to the fuel tank access cap. The little clips are very flexible with age and would not hold it on so we had to carefully put it back into the sump while making sure the pickup did not come detached. Works like a charm now!!

I hate to resurrect an old thread, but this is the same problem I have now. I just replaced the fuel pump, and wonder what this statement is talking about. I have been a mechanic for years, but what does "pickup...attached to fuel tank access cap" mean?
