Default speedometer sensor routing - 1988 244dl

my question: where is the wiring for the sensor supposed to pass through the body to reach the sensor at the rear axle? a previous owner or mechanic has the wiring sharing the hole with the in-tank fuel pump access cover, which seems incorrect.

i ask because i have the in-tank pump removed (it wasn't working, even with the #4 fuse pulled and a jumper wire connected from #6 to the righthand side of the #4 fuse terminal, awaiting a tank gasket [the one on it was already junk before i removed the sending unit assembly, so i was pulling it even if the pump worked]. it also wasn't working when 12v applied directly to the connector (and ground) from a charged 12v battery. however, after getting it out fully intact (including the sock and the float ball), and dismantling the simple electrical connections, i applied 12v to the prongs on the pump and it worked instantly, and subsequent testing now has it working with 12v applied to the harness connector/ground ring. probably minor oxidation issues, as the pump is fairly new (as is the tank itself).

thank you..

The speedo wiring is indeed supposed to go through the same hole as the in-tank pump/fuel gauge wire.

thanks for the info. poor design, makes it difficult to use the weatherproof seal around the wiring group without destroying it.
