Default standard to auto swap?????

I know this seems contrary to the norm, but I am a disabled fellow. I have an opportunity to trade my Miata for my dream car: a MINT and all-original survivor 1984 240 gl. I can manage the stick for now, but the Parkinson's is a progressive thing, and I will eventually need an automatic. I googled a search, but everything there is auto to standard.
- Is this do-able without too much trouble? (no clutch linkage to worry about)
- I am guessing that everyone wants the trans that I have, so it may be possible to find some assistance, or maybe a car swap?
Regards,
Rob

Possible to find someone to swap cars, sticks are more desirable for sure BUT finding the right match, hmm?

Making it auto is not hard, easier than the other way swap but still it is a major mod, heavy work... Ask around a shop to do it for you, it shouldn't be too bad cost wise.

an 84 stick, is probably the 4 speed with OD ? you'll need to swap the drive shaft along with the transmission, and I bet the final drives have different ratios for stick vs auto cars. what lev says, a cherry 84 240 stick is probably worth more than a daily driver quality newer 240/740/940 auto, especially if you're in/near a hipster-centric area like portland, seattle, northern california, new england.

I'd seek out something automatic, sticks are harder to find parts for and where I live hardly worth more than automatics, I've even seen a few cheap 242s!

Get the stick and enjoy it, and later on get a cheap beater automatic, maybe try a 7-9 series for diversity sake (the transmission and engine will swap into the 240).
