Default Starting Problem

Hi everyone, this is my first post, I have a 740 intercooler turbo 1989 which has developed a starting problem, it starts on the key and runs for 2 or 3 seconds then stops, it will then start again and do the same thing, this will happen about a dozen times then it wont fire but if I leave it for a couple of minutes it starts and the same thing happens again, I would be very grateful for any help

I would make sure that you don't have a major vacuum leak. Also, pull out the plugs after it quits running and see if they are wet. Have you cleaned your throttle body. The Idle Air Control valve could be stuck closed too. That may need cleaning. Is there anything else you can tell us about what's happened?

Thanks for the help, I will try the things you suggest, the only other thing I can think of is it smells of petrol under the bonnet after trying to start but I cant see any leaks
