got a new signal/high beam lever switch i would like to install, but dont want to take the chance of the airbag blowin up in my face. whats the protocol on removing the steering wheel? got a 91 740....

 

Ain't gonna happen Skippy! Seriously, if you have any concerns whatsoever, just disconnect the battery.
Here's your wheel (this one's off a 91 740 also)...

There are two torx screws on the back side...see the holes?

After you remove the bolts, the air bag is loose. The bottom edge tucks under a lip on the wheel so tip it out from the top and lift out. It honestly takes less than 5 minutes once you getthe correct torx bit.
Here's the backside of the air bag. The clock spring is self-contained so it is a piece of cake.
