I have a quick question. I purchased 2 Volvo 740's last week (I posted a thread on here about it) I love my new cars!

The 1991 740 turbo wagon is in desperate need of shocks/struts.

While researching the cost of new ones, I keep running into this statement "not for nivomat". It's been driving me crazy trying to look up whether or not my volvo 740 turbo wagon was originally equipped with these...

Does a 4 cylinder 1991 740 turbo have nivomat shocks on them or not?

740's never had Nivos...those were self adjusting rear shocks on 760 sedans. I don't think wagons ever got them. Sachs/Boge standard duty struts used to be a good economical choice but since production shifted from Germany to Mexico, not so much now. If you have deep pockets, the Bilstein HD is darn good; their touring struts are cheaper but not worth the money. A good, middle of the road strut these days is the KYB. The GasAJust shocks for the rear are better than the GR2, but for the front struts, I think all they offer is the GR2 insert. Regardless, they are hard to beat. Stay away from tpical US names like Monroe and Gabriel...they are way too soft for your wagon. Just some free, unsolicited opinion!!

I plan on saving the springs, and hopefully the mounts. How would i know if they are bad? I plan on saving money though and pulling some out of the junkyard if the one on them are bad...

Hey i just pulled a muffler and resonator for my 89 26 bucks out the door. It's in good shape too!
