Are the center console/heater controls supposed to illuminate. The only thing that lights up are my gauges and my shifter.

 

hmm, been awhile since i drove our 240 at night, its my daughter's car now and out of state. the diagram I'm looking at, for a 87/88, shows 3 lights under that 'coin tray' that should be lighting the switches below it.

 

Yup - all controls in the center console should be illuminated. There are three main illumination lights - one high that illuminates the switches and two low that illuminates the heater controls. The hazard switch and rear defroster switch have a bulb that illuminates when on.
