Sunroof Question
Good day all,
The work continues on the grandsons 1990 240 DL Sedan we are fixing up. We tested the power sunroof for the first time today, and surprisingly it worked.....not stellar, but it worked! It opened smoothly a little over halfway before it started to struggle so we closed it. It closed smoothly until it was about 3 inches from closing then it needed some help. Tried it a few more times with pretty much the same result. Long story short it appears it is definitely in need of cleaning and lubrication.
The game plan is to clean/blow out the drain holes, replace the weatherstrip seals, clean and lube and see what we end up with. That said, what specific areas should or should not be lubricated, and is there a specific type of grease to use. It doesn't leak when closed so we don't want to mess that up.
Many thanks

I believe a Haynes manual has suggestions, but I use white lithium grease is good on the sliding tracks and lightly clean and vacuum the drive cable. There are a couple of pivot points for the vent position and retracted position that could be greased too.
It may be getting stuck at the end when closing because the pop-up deflector might be slightly bent upward at the middle and catches on the edge. Each attempt to close bends it a little more. It is made of aluminum and can be easily reshaped.
I would also remove the plastic cover that conceals the drive motor and tighten each of the 3 nuts that hold it in place and add a drop of locktite to hold them in place.
