Tachometer wiring problem
I own a 1983 244 dl (+225000 miles) that came with a clock on the guage cluster instead of a tachometer. I recently went to a junkyard and found a guage cluster from a 93 240 GL I believe, with a tachometer in it. To keep the odometer showing the correct miles, I simply replaced the clock with the tachometer from the newly found guage cluster. The problem I have is that I don't know how to wire the tachometer to work. I have found the wire from the solenoid (grayish) but that is all. On the back of the tachometer there are 5 electrical connections. On the top there are three connections (+58) (+30) (-31) and on the bottom there are only two connections. The one on the left is labeled as (12v) and the one on the right appears to not be labeled. There is a number (1) inbetween the two bottom connections. I would like to know what colored wires I need to find and which connections they connect to. Thanks folks.
The Tach Feed wire should be a single wire. There should be I believe a single Male spade sticking out of the back of the cluster that should be for the Tach. Unless I am wrong.
Well, there is a single female connection right next to the tach (lower left of the tach. On the back of the cluster but not the tach itself). Im assuming this is it? But, the wire from the solenoid also has a female connection. I think I have a few male connections around in case I have to convert it. What I don't understand is why all the extra random male spade connections on the back of the tach. All it needs is the single wire connection? No grounding wire or whatknot?
Couldn't get the pic to send from my phone.
There should be a Red/white wire in the dash with a Female end on it.
The tach should have 2 sets of connections.
1 3 plug connection on top of the tach assembly. That is a Jump for the Clock.
There is 2 on the bottom of the tach. Connect the red/white wire to one of the 2 prongs and it should work.
