In tank fuel pump?
Hey guys, I just got my 240 back from my mechanic with a new fuel pressure regulator. It died on me a month ago and he got it working again. In the process though i replaced my fuel filter, coil cap and rotor, fuses, mass air flow sensor and a couple hoses. Now it runs solid! The issue is that I now have a loud humming that comes from my pump or at least it sounds like its coming from there. The faster I go the louder it hums. Is it over working because my in tank filter is bad? or did I just do something wrong when I put on the fuel filter? I don't think there should be any issues with that since it was pretty straight forward but I just want to be sure. I wanna fix the problem before it gets worse. Any help is welcomed! thanks
A noisy main fuel pump is the first indication that your in-tank pump has died and needs replacement. Here is a nice writeup on how to diagnose and replace the in-tank pump:

When you do get around to changing the in- tank pump, replace the o-ring on the sending unit.
Also, try get a Bosch or airtex unit. They are only slightly more expensive than than Chinese ones from eBay but are wired correctly and will last longer.

Well, "faster you go, louder it sounds"? No, that doesn't sound like a pump, more like a bearing. Failing pump usually fails under high demand for fuel, under heavy acceleration, etc. if it doesn't just quit. Noise, sure, it's a motor--if it gets too loud obviously it's out of whack. But may be wait to be sure, don't just throw parts and $ on the problem...
