Default In tank fuel pump replacement

I got a new fuel pump for my 740T with LH 2.2. At first they got me a regina pump and now they gave me an in-tank pump that is about half as tall as the original. Is it new and smaller or another wrong pump? I don't see how they can keep messing up like this. I guess that it's a pump for a non turbo car or a 240 or something. I was just wondering if someone else had gotten a replacement pump and found out that the replacement is smaller (not likely). Thanks.

So here is the answer:

The short pump is for a non turbo and it pumps about 40 gallons per hour

The real pump is the same size and pumps about 60 gallons per hour.

So some auto places may not know the differences (like the ones around me), make sure the pump is the same size.

Default In-tank fuel pump replacement

Does anyone have instructions on replacing the in-tank fuel pump for the 1987 Model 740 turbo?

This is an old thread, but i can see why you posted here. Is your car a wagon old a sedan? This only really should make a difference about getting to the access panel in the floor of the car. In a sedan I think you can get to it in the front left-ish side of the trunk. In my wagon, I pulled the back seats (easy). The pivot pins have a clip of something on them. The rear floor board right behind the seats can be removed by taking off 3 nuts that hold down some straps on the front edge. Then the whole first section of the floor slides forward and to un-clip the back and it comes out. Below is the access panel to fuel tank. Open it and below is the tank and sender unit. The ring unscrews and the whole sender comes out. That part is the hard part, but it's not hard to figure out. With the sender out you can change the fuel pump.
