TheGageinators 1992 Volvo 940 GL Work Log!!!!
Finally got myself a Volvo after wanting one for a few years. I got an OK deal on it and drove it home. 212k miles. non-turbo. has the heated seats and such. Ill be making up a full build thread with pics and videos and how to-s. my plan for this car is to get it restored to better than new condition.
The first thing i noticed was the horribly warped rotors. definitely the worst ive seen. just ordered some rotors on Bbay for cheap
Disc Brake Rotor Front Parts Master 125319 | eBay
I also found that the O2 sensor wires had been yanked out! im guessing they caught on something while driving. i need to order one.
Im wondering if its ok to cheap out on some other parts on eBay like the o2 sensor and ignition cap... they are $100 each at the autoparts store, but $30 on ebay..... anyone have input? ill post pics asap
i found this awesome page full of info that ill be using Brakes:

I guess my o2 sensor was in the correct place, it was welded right onto the front of the catalytic converter. but the welding job was horrible and the threads are very messed up. I like the #2 location a lot better, it looks like it would give a more accurate reading for fuel mixture

The plug for the temp sensor that controls the gauge was messed up. i repaired it, but the gauge still doesnt work. it kind of bumps around every now and again.
new brake pads and rotors
I found this vacuum line had come loose from the brake pedal sensor. I just put it back in place, and now my cruise control works!! excellent!
i also just ordered some bushings for my shifter linkage

anyone know what this is or where the plug is for it?

Oil pressure sender.
Cable looks way too slack. I know you can drop tranny pan and swap cable in less than an hour. They aren't $$$. Could be broken. Do you feel it click?
Edit-When you buy a new cable it comes with a new "clamp" for wire stop. You pinch it in place after cable is adjusted and measured properly. I heard aftermarket cables suck. Buy genuine.
Book says adjustment is a 1/64"-3/64" gap between clamp on wire and the wire sheath. 1.986"-2.072" from sheath to end of wire with pedal depressed.
Buy a book.
EDIT- ok on the desktop now....watched video. I see the kickdown clicking. That means its not completely broken, but I have heard the cable stretches. I forget what other problems occur with the kickdown. If it were my car, I would start first with adjusting it to the proper specs, spray some lube down the bastard and see if it fixes it. If not, I would buy a NEW genuine cable and drop the pan to install and clean up that dirty tranny while down there. Especially if it already leaks from pan gasket. You could even do the tranny filter when you drop the pan. Buy a good filter. And while you are at it, you change the ATF. Preventative maintenance that prob should be done anyways.

thanks for the reply!! ill buy a book, which one do you recommend?
I will adjust the cable, but change the fluid and filter was next on my list, so i will probably go ahead and order a kickdown cable! it does seem like it has stretched
i just ordered a flame trap tune-up kit

Yours looks way out of adjustment or possibly bad. Again, its been a while since I messed with one, but all that slop and the "clamp" all the way tight against the sheath looks very outta spec. A good fresh one couldn't hurt anything but the wallet, along with a pan gasket. Your trans looks dirty to so if you have a pan leak you will be taking care of that too.
Remember, only about a third of the tranny fluid will come out of the pan. The rest lives in the converter and in the trannny. Read up on how to change fluid properly.
For books there really isn't much to chose from. Haynes, Chilton, Bentley (240), uhh and whatever you can find online. Almost ANYTHING in print is a better starting point to learn from instead of relying on incoherent cell phone posts from college students.
