Default Tie Rod Ends

Hello, I have an 89 Volvo 240 dl sedan, and I've always noticed this kind of looseness in the way the wheel turns, and sometimes when I hit a bump in the road it will move the steering wheel way out of position, also it will vear to the left alot especially at high speeds above 70mph the car seems to jump like a jack rabbit left then right all over the place, I spoke with one of my mechanics the last time I actually took my car in to get work done, and he has the tie rod ends were in need of being changed and quoted me a price of somewhere near $500 for parts/labor to get this done, I'm just wondering has anyone ever done this? how easy is it? are there any good reference materials out there for this type of job I'd like to actually take it upon myself to change these out, I don't know much about cars but I've really enjoyed doing the work on my own car and reaping the rewards of doing it correctly not only monetarily but just taking pride in my automobile. if anyone has any suggestions let me know.

Default RE: Tie Rod Ends

It is fairly easy.
If you look at it you will need to unscrew the outer tierod and then remove the book and remove the inner.
When you remove the outer one count the turns and remember for when you put it back together.

But you will need an Alignment when you are done.
