Timing belt change
I was wondering if you guys recommend changing the timing belt tensioner and idler every time the timing belt gets changed. I know these engines are non-interference so nothing will happen if it were to fail but I was just wondering.
I don't do it every time. When I have a vehicle that is new to me with unknown history, I replace it. When the timing belt comes up for replacement the second time I replace just the belt. I haven't had to replace a timing belt a third time on any of my cars yet as I haven't been able to keep one long enough to go a third time.
I usually change it every belt change as it is a cheap part and while you are there it's an easy thing to do. As for the water pump I'm on my 2nd one at 365K miles so when it starts to leak I'll replace that.
I am also on my second water pump at 295,000 miles. I have been surprised by how long it has lasted.
