Default Timing Belt replacement questions 1993 240 B230 motor

Hi Forum, first, thanks for all the help I have received from you.
Here's my latest issue.
I followed directions to align the camshaft sprocket, the intermediate shaft sprocket and the crankshaft sprocket prior to removal of the old timing belt.
Then I installed the new belt matching the belt marks with the sprocket marks. The camshaft sprocket (all of them, I used the camshaft as the reference) rotated about 12 teeth clockwise while torqueing the sprocket bolts. Thinking I had to realign the camshaft to the mark on the inside cover I have rotated the sprockets clockwise, but now the belt and sprocket marks do not meet. I have removed spark plugs from nos. 1 and 2 to make rotation easier.but I am concerned that I am not getting the sprocket/belt marks to line up with each other after numerous full rotations.
Have I screwed up my timing? If I keep rotating the camshaft will the marks eventually realign? Does it matter since the sprockets were in correct position before the old belt was removed and new belt installed. I don't remember having this issue years ago when I did this the first time.

Thanks for your help.

No. The good thing is - you will not cause any damage (bend any valves) with the timing belt incorrect.

Take the belt off, align the cam/crank/and jackshaft - then put the belt back on and release the tensioner.

I'm not sure why "while torqueing the sprocket bolts" has anything to do with, or why that was done. (perhaps seals were replaced underneath them, if so just line up the pulleys before installing the belt).

Thanks Hoonk.
I had the sprockets off to take a look at seals but did not need to replace them. I guess I complicated the belt job.

Hoonk, one more question.
When I am realigning the camshaft and intermediate shaft my inclination is to set the crankshaft at the timing mark from the lower cover first, then move the intermediate sprocket to its mark, then rotate the camshaft to its mark.
Would that be the correct procedure?
Since I'm a real "shadetree mechanic" with very intermittent experience with this motor please give me all the specifics you can for guidance.
Thanks.

The other reason I removed cam sprocket was to remove and replace the inner timing cover due to condition at some bolt holes and part of the rim.

Hoonk, with your guidance to redo the belt installation I got it done smoothly yesterday. Working on the rest of reassembly. Thanks
