Default Tranny shifting problem

One thing I forgot to mention was a problem I have with my tranny shifting. It does eventually shift to all gears but it really shifts slow into 3rd and 4th. The RPM's go up to 4000-5000 before it shifts. Is there anything I could check while I have the tranny out replacing the main seals.

It could be a gummed up trans and/or valve body, or more than likely worn check ***** in the valve body. If you go in there, you really should have the factory manual.

Would a sticky kickdown cable cause a 3-4 shift to come late?

If it is just a late 3-4 shift, then that is usually something to do with the OD solenoid or wiring. I was under the impression that all of the shifts were REAL late. Which could be a totally trashed cable, but usually even with the cable removed the valve body pressures will climb high enough to shift it before 5k. If you go in and find just a trashed cable, consider it a blessing.
