Yeah, I found a step by step somewhere with pictures, but if I have questions I'll definitely call I've heard good things about their support.

Any idea on what'd do a good job of cleaning coke out of the oil supply lines?

Alright, I was thinking about plugging the ends, filling it with carb or brake cleaner and letting it soak a few hours, blow out what I can with an air compressor, maybe see if i cant run a small cloth or rope though it. That should do it and hopefully not leave any debris.

You may end up using something a bit firmer...such as a coat hanger. I suppose you know reduced coking is the big selling point for running synthetic w/ turbo cars.

Yeah, even though it may be a little late for mine thanks to PO neglect.I still want to clean out as much as I can and at least prevent more from building up in the future. I might clean up and rebuild the head down the line as well as re-ring the pistons. I realize that wouldn't be worth it to most people and they'd rather get a newer car, but I don't want to give up the 740 until it can't take anymore. xD

If you're able to do the work yourself, it makes perfect sense. Assuming an engine does not require overboring, and one can do the work oneself, new main and conn rod bearings, intermediate shaft bearings, complete gasket set and seals, new freeze plugs, new rings....still wa under$1k. Doesn't take too many months of car payments to surpass that!

Exactly. I looked up every internal part (that I know of) and I was kind of surprised. You can make the engine practically brand new for less than the cost of a beater on craigslist provided you have either the knowledge or connections to do it for cheap/free.

I don't want to deal with ripping the exhaust manifold off... but is that where the bolts are to remove it? ...Inside it? If so theres another week I have to wait for a gasket to ship here. xD Useless local parts stores.

Yup, on the back side prior to 1990. Mani has to come off. Where do you live that there's a one week delay on exhaust gaskets? I've gotten spoiled living in Dallas. Too many people, too much crime but...there's one of every sort of shop within 20 minutes.

Janesville, WI . No parts stores have volvo specific ones on hand and to special order they're unsure whether they can have it here overnight or within a week from wherever they get them from. These stores have nothing for volvos on hand ever. xD That's mainly why I have a shipment from FCP every week or two. We have 2 autozones, 2 O'reillys, an advanced auto parts, bumper to bumper, and car quest. I feel like its not even worth calling them to see if they have things anymore. xD And alright, that'll be a job for next weekend I guess. It doesn't take 20 minutes to get ANYWHERE in this city. A drive from one side to the other is like 10 mins. Although I set my own speed limit between 30-45 in city.

Ahh, ok. Makes sense now. When sourcing hard parts such as shocks, calipers, water pumps etc., be sure to check the prices at rockauto.com Although they don't specialize in imports, they have great prices on what they do stock. Great service too.
