Default Turn signals & other functions DEAD!

Suddenly both turn signals, power windows and A/C compressor stopped working. The belt turns fine, but the clutch is not engaging and all I get from the vents is warm air. Turn signals won't work, but park lights come on fine. All the bulbs are okay. All corresponding fuses are good.

Are these problems connected? (Aside being all electrical) Or have different systems decided to fail all at once?

I'm thinking maybe a relay. I haven't checked the relay assembly yet because I can't seem to locate my relay identification diagram.

These problems happen to coincide with a pretty hefty rain, which may not even be a factor. Also, the last thing I remember doing the day these functions ceased was operating the tailgate window wiper. Again, that may or may not have contributed to the problem...I'm not 100%.
Please advise.

Are all the fuses good?

Try playing with the Ignition switch and see if the stuff starts working.

I'll check the ignition switch and come back with what I find.

I don't think the ignition switch problem is the cuase of my blinker problem, though. My hazard lights blink fine as do my park lights. Any thought on that? Again, the fuses are okay. I've even replaced them. If the relay was out, wouldn't my hazards be inoperative also?

I've accessed the relay panel and am fairly certain it's not the relay. When I activate the hazards, I can hear and feel the relay clicking. I'm assuming that the same relay manages both the hazards and flashers.

So I think you're right. The culprit may be the ignition switch. What do you mean by "playing with the switch"? I've been doing a lot of jiggling and slow turning of the key, but I don't think I'm getting anywhere. Do I have to dismantle my dash to properly test it? I'd like to know for certain that it is infact bad before I spend for the part.

Im not sure if it is the Ignition if you kept moving it and nothing happened.

I will have try to find a wiring Diagram and look it over and see.

Well damn! If it's not the ignition switch then I'm totally stumped! It seemed the only logical link between the power windows to the turn signals.

Do you have a different key for your car? My ignition was acting kind of funny once...all kinds of electrical problems...and my Volvo guy told me to use a different key. I have no idea why but it worked.

FYI...the turnsignal fuse and hazards fuse are separate.

Sorry didn't get a chance to look at the wiring Diagram today hopefully Tomorrow.

I tried using the spare key, but it didn't make a difference unfortunately. I even tried a little graphite powder, but that didn't do much either.

I guess I'll buy and install the new ignition switch and see if it fixes the problem. I'm not 100% sure that the switch is the problem, so I'm a bit hesitant.

Yeah, Tech's the man. He's helped me out with a couple of issues I've had in the past. It's too bad he drives a Ford.

Okay, so it's definately NOT the ignition switch. I installed the brand new OEM part, started her up, and still no turn signals, no power windows. I don't know what else it could be. The parts guy and one of the mechanics there at the shop were both pretty confident it was the switch.

Nothing else connects the 2 things.
I will try to do more research tomorrow.

Looked at the diagram today. Also each has a relay in the Fuse box. Maybe both are bad.

Turn signals and hazards share the same relay, don't they?

Also, is there an in-line fuse type application anywhere in the scheme? Someone had suggested that to me, but I doubted it was so.

Yes hazards nad turn signals share the same relay.

No inline fuses. Other than in the fuse box.

So there's a wire coming from the turn signal switch to the relay, and a wire coming from the hazard switch to the relay. Then the relay goes either to the left or right corner bulb. But the hazards stay independent since they have to work when the engine is off. The turn signals go hot once the ignition is in the II position. But the ignition switch isn't the culprit since I replaced it with a new part and the problem wasn't fixed. So it's either the turn signal switch, or the wiring coming from the turn signal switch to the relay. I can still switch to highbeams, so apparently that part of the switch is still good. But how is all that related to an A/C compressor that won't engage and power windows that have no power? Are they all independent instances that happen to come about all at once? Is there a little hungry gremlin in my dash snacking on my wiring harness? I'm so stumped. The wife's telling me to just take it into the shop and have them handle it. Doesn't she get it? It's a matter of pride, dammit! Curse you Swedes and your electrical systems!

LOL...

Is there a wire cluster under the hood that might be going bad? Like...maybe something rubbing against the fan or battery?
