I have a 1981 240 wagon, non turbo, 4 speed with pushbutton OD. First off, how do I identify what engine I have? I want to buy some tune up parts and there are several choices. My other concern is this. When I start it cold, it surges for about a minute or two, and then smooths out. Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks in advance.

Check the VIN number ...

It could be a gummed up idle control valve. Spraying with carb cleaner might fix it.
