This is more for the race engine builders and performance guys. I'm wondering if valve hushers on a b230 (redblock) are necessary. I'm looking to eliminate as many parts that can fail as possible and am wondering if the hushers do anything besides quiet valve noise.

 

What are valve hushers?

The rubber ring that fits on top of the valve stem between the stem and the bucket tappet? Those are just for noise reduction.
