Default Valve body or PnP?

Hi,
Mine's a 1994 auto trans 940 N/A with an AW71L box (I think). When cold, gear shift out of first is delayed and needs high revs. When it finally does, it sometimes "jumps" into second with quite a jerk. I've tried the "sliding along all gear positions with the key in position II" method and it seems fine and there doesn't seem to be anything out of the ordinary with the kick-down cable. Based on searches, it would seem to be either the valve body or the PnP switch. How do I tell which it is?
Thks.

P/S - I've done the ATF flush recently with Dexron III. Colour's clear and reddish, no smell.

The only thing the PNP on that car does is control the reverse lights and stops the car from starting in gear.

It is something in the transmission.
The kick down cable isn't to loose is it?

Sounds almost like a bad transmission.

Thanks, tech.

I had the mech try it out and he swears its the valve body. Says he's seen a dozen of these and its quite common on the 940s. I've got an appointment to send it in on Tuesday.

Thanks again.
