I hear the valves ticking at low RPM's on my 940. Anyone know the tolerance on these valves cold???

If the clearances are in spec but you still hear valve tap, either live with it...or replace the rubber silencers AKA "Hushers" under the camshaft.

Be careful, the ticking you hear may just be the fuel injector needles opening and closing. Very easy to mix the two up. Put a screwdriver "point-down" on the injector, and place the handle to your ear. Then, do the same on the valve cover, that will help you ID where the noise is coming from. Not to say you aren't hearing valve noise, but I've had a lot of people be suprised when I tell them everything's OK, and just run a fuel injector cleaning.

The Valve lash is at .015. What are these "hushers" that you talk about? I didn't see any rubber bushing in the valve cover.

Click on the blue word HUSHERS in my previous post, it will connect you to a link that explains everything.
They are under the valve shim disks so you can't see them. They come in a headgasket service kit (or individually, I suppose). You have to remove the camshaft to replace them (not as daunting a job as it seems on a Volvo engine).
Simply put, they are rubber cushions that minimize valve tap that can be evident with solid lifter designs.
