Default Vapor Lock?

I have a 240dl 1988 I replaced the inline pump and fuel filter almost two weeks ago and I was driving when to make a turn smelled gas and it died after I pushed it for 4 blocks in Arizona heat 112 I let it rest for an hr and it fired right up I left it parked at the hospital and am wondering is it vapor lock or a faulty pump I bought a new pump 1 month ago and that one did the same thing so I warrantied it after the hr it started again its got 1/2 a tank of gas any advice would be great

Vapor lock only happens on carbureted engines not fuel injected. Something else is going on, maybe a leaky fuel line?! (smell of gas).

Here's a video of something you should check first before you blame the fuel pump.

Default Vapor lock

Vapor lock is not just a carb thing. It is reality in your two-pump setup.

If the tank pump fails, vapor lock is what keeps the main pump from creating pressure. If the regulator valve leaks back, or the main pump's check valve leaks back -- anything that forces the fuel as fluid from the main pump -- the system is vapor locked. Just wait until it cools.

Or fix the tank pump. Make sure the rail pressure is maintained for at least 20 minutes after shutdown.

chain car parts stores are good for Honda and Chevy parts, not european cars. get stuff mail order from European specialists like FCP Euro or IPD USA.

only stuff I buy at OReally or Autozoned is wax, antifreeze (Zerex G-05), and oil, and maybe wipers.

well that may explain your problem. surely the heat doesn't help but
think you would do better with bosch. fcp euro guarantees everything forever
and free shipping to your door.

My 740 vapor locked on me going south from Atlanta with the stupid McDonough traffic on one hot summer day. I knew I had spark with a new coil and plugs a week before. Having nothing else to do on the side of the road i pulled the carpet back in the trunk and removed the access panel. Removed the pressure line for the in tank pump to the pressure pump and there was nothing.
I then sat on the side of the road for a few moments and then placed everything back in order and primed the fuel. Started back up and then went to grinding for another 45 minutes to go 6 miles past a wreck when the pace picked back up.
I already knew my in tank pump was failing, replaced it a month later.
