Default Volvo 240 Dashboard- Questions on one that just arrived

Man, I feel like the luckiest man alive! I just bought a original Volvo Dashboard off of a 240 1991 Station for a total around $150.00 off of ebay. It only has 2 minor cracks in it. It doesn't have the middle speaker hole like mine does, but that is ok since I don't use it. Should it fit ok on my 1991 240 Volvo DL Sedan?

It was advertised as a genuine volvo 240 dashboard. now i am kind of worried though, how can i make sure it is not a oem? it doesn't have the middle hole for the speaker... did some 1991 volvo 240 dash's come without a speaker middle hole?

Yes. I believe my 1991 244 doesn't have a center hole for the speaker and it's original. My 1992 didn't have a center speaker either. My 1982 does have the center speaker whole.

psst? OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer, and is generally used to mean either the manufacturer (Volvo) or its parts supplier (Boge/Sachs for shocks, for instance). It always means parts that are exactly what shipped on the vehicle.

ps. our 87 244GL has that center speaker hole.

If your '91 has a hole for a speaker, then this '91 should have it too... Wagon or sedan should not be different... You mean you do want it to be OEM (original equipment manufacturer).

Since mine had a original speaker hole in the middle and this one didn't...does this mean the dash isnt' an OEM/original?

Does this look like I got a good deal?

Big D. You are fine. My '91 244 doesn't have a cut out for the center speaker nor does my '92 245. The center speaker was a european spec. It wasn't used in the U.S. market, but the hole was still there. My '82 245 has it, my parents '83 245 and so does my friend's '90 245 but it's not in use. The holeless dash is original equipment so you can rest assured your car gets/is getting what she deserves and hopefully nothing less.

Although I will be adding a center speaker to either my 1982 or my 1991(I'll need a dash with the cut out for my '91), as I have an 1982 Volvo OEM AM/FM/CB radio. It's so nice to have and I'm going to buy a 2nd and even 3rd OEM Volvo AM/FM/CB radio.

I hope this helps.

I toyed with trying to put a good quality speaker in that center hole wired as a center channel maybe a 4x6 plate or something. but I never did take a stab at it.

If you believe you got a good deal, you got a good deal... if you don't, then you didn't.

I think 150 is high to have cracks. as far as the center speaker, I took my blown speakers on the left and right and installed some small bose speakers I took out of a cadillac at the junk yard and just hot glued them in the center of the old speaker since its molded in. They are nice.

Well, Volvo was famous for using whatever they had. If they had left over 90 dashes w/ speaker holes they would have used them in early 91's until they ran out. If you don't believe it, check the casting production date on cylinder heads...I've seen them 2 years older than the model year of the car...and the head was original to the car. It's no big deal...I don't think there's anyone out there making re-pops of 240 dashes...

I just got the dashboard in overall it looks good. However, I have a few concerns:

1)The side of the dashboard that meets the window has three pins that plug in to the body of the car. They are fastened to the dashboard with rivets. The rivets are a little loose and not tight. Will that be a problem?

2) It was wrapped up heavily in bubble rap. I can't tell but the bubble wrap might of rubbed off the glossy surface of the dashboard. Is this is in my head or possible? Is this permanent? You can see glossy circle patterns where the bubble wrap didn't wear off the glossy surface.

Set it on fire you got hosed lol!

Unwrap it and check it out. Wipe it w/ armor all and see what it looks like.

Post a pic on fire or other-wise....

I wouldn't use Armor-All.... It leaves everything too greasy. Use a non-silicone vinyl treatment such as Mirror Glaze #40 Vinyl/Rubber Cleaner.

I know it sounds silly with the fire joke but my volvo 240 is my baby and i have been slowly restoring it to as new as possible over the past few years.

Is it possible that the the vinyl glossy sheen was worn off/damaged by the bubble rap plastic? Please don't forget that the volvo 240 black interiors did come with a glossy theme.

Most likely, the only thing removed by the bubble wrap was whatever treatment the prior owner used to make it photogenic. I'm sure it's fine. You use whatever you're comfortable with using to get it/keep it looking great. Some swear by/swear at the following and many more...ArmorAll, STP SonofAGun, TireWet (messy), Back To Black, Pledge furniture polish, pure silicone toner...the list goes on and on...anything is better than leaving it dry to bake in the summer sun...

at this point it doesn't matter. i found another small crack on the edge rounded corner where it meets the windshield on the drivers side. i'm going to send this dash back and get my money back...even though it won't be much after shipping. it's really hard to trust people on ebay.

geez, a perfect dash for a 240, a car that was last made about 18 years ago. best of luck with that one.

I know my 240 dash has a couple big ol cracks through it. I occasionally think about filling them with black RTV.
