Hi, I've just bought a Volvo 240GLE 1989, and is very happy with it. But all of a sudden, it won't start! When I turn the key, all i hear is a small "click!", and nothing from the engine. I'm not so familiar with engines and volvo's, so I need help. Can someone give me an insight of what the problem could be?

Yes, I've checked and charged the battery, also tried jumpstart.
But when I tried to jumpstart it, it came no sound at all, not even a "click"

 

Most likely starter is done for... If you have a strong battery and you get a "click", starter is your best bet... Or a frozen motor (bad), but this is unlikely with the circumstances given...

Get a piece of long pipe or stick, place it on top of the body of the starter, (don't touch the wires), whack the pipe with a hammer--the starter should come to life when you turn the key. Then you'll know for sure that you need another starter.

 

could be the park/neutral switch, that disables the starter completely. try putting hte car in neutral instead of park (with the parking brake set), and starting it. wiggle the shifter a bit too.
