I have a 1990 240 GLT (manual) with various electrical problems.
The reverse lights haven’t worked since I bought it, due to a wires unplugged from underneath on the gearbox; which simply just needs plugged back in.

But over the last few days the reverse lights have been coming on while driving forwards, sometimes flickering, sometimes constant, or sometimes not at all.

unsure where there getting power from as the lines disconnected under the car.

Any advice ?

I'd check the wires at the reverse light switch - at this age the insulation may be gone and the wires could be shorted - causing power to go the the reverse light bulbs.

 

The wires on the reverse light switch aren’t currently connected, and the lights still come on.
It’s like they’re getting power from the running lights, somehow.

 

If those wires are still attached to the #14 clamp on the top of the trans - lack of insulation can cause that.

Or the reverse lights plug into the harness on the left? side of the trans tunnel - pull the carpet back and unplug the subharness there ( from the switch to the main harness.)

Or - take the fuse out.
