my reverse lights turn on and off when i am in reverse. any ideas?

Sounds like a bad connection in the PNP switch.

i guess this is under the transmisssion selector?

It is mounted to the top of the transmission where the shifter cable attaches.

Is it both bulbs at the same time, or just one? You might want to check the bulbs for tightness in their sockets, and also check the fuse for the reverse lightsjust to eliminate the easy things first

its both of the bulbs. i notice if i put slight pressure on the gear selector towards the front of the car they work fine

Then that would be your PNP switch going bad. It would have nothing to do with the bulbs.

I dont have any reverse lights either. Car drives fine. The lights do flash when i set alarm though. I replaced PNP with one from fcp and it was faulty part and stuck in limp mode.. I put old one back on. No lights again but at least no limp mode.
