Volvo 240 Virgo Turbo wheel issue
Hey all,
So I bought all new 4 195/70/14's thinking they would fit my turbo Virgo rims which came on my 92 240 wagon I just picked up. Apparently they are 15's but the shop said that the wheel isn't even a 15. He said the 15 inch tires that are on them now are basically on tight as hell and he isn't even sure how they were put on there.
He also stated that when he measured the wheel it was like 15 1/2 inches. He said he believes they are 390mm wheels and that I am going to have a hard time finding tires.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

The stock turbo/Virgo wheel Volvo size tire is 195/60R15. The rim size should be molded onto it somewhere, including the ET (offset) and width. like 6.0 x 15 ET 20 or whatever (I don't have a virgo so I can't tell you what it actually is).

Yea apparently the shop took off the tire that was on one of the wheels and they said when they tried putting it back on it wouldn't fit. I believe it was a 175/60/15. I am positive on the 175 and 15 part. Does the middle number really make the difference?
I have the wheel where they tried to get the tire on and there is an inch or two where the tire is lipped and wont groove in on the wheel. I don't know if that tire was just F'ed or they were unsure what they were doing. I am looking at 195/65/15's. Any thoughts?

the middle number is the aspect ratio of the tire, how wide it is relative to how tall the sidewall is. the stock 195/60-15 on the Virgo is 24.2" in diameter, and 7.7" wide, for 835 turns/mile. a 195/65R15 is 7.7 wide but 25" in diameter, this means 809 turns/mile.
that translates to 0.4" height difference, and a 3% speedometer difference, at 65MPH indicated, you'll be going 67. if you want to run a /65 tire, 205/65r15 is the better choice.
the original late volvo 240 wagon size is 195/75R14, these are 25.5" in dimameter, and 814 turns/mile.
tirerack thinks 205/65r15, which is also 25.5" in diameter, is the correct 15" upgrade, and by those numbers, I'd concur. note that wider tires do tend to make your steering feel heavier, hope thats what you're looking for.

uhhhh, 195/70R14's are 14" tires. was that a typo?
Yes that was correct. I accidentally bought 14's because I thought my Virgos were 14.
But I believe I will go with the 195/60/15 just to play it safe. This shop has me freaked because they were saying they couldn't get the 15 tire back on there so I don't want to buy 15's that still wont work.
If you said that the spec for the wheel was 195/60/15 then I will go with that.
