Default Volvo 740 Air Temperature Sensor Problem

I recently acquired a 1991 Volvo 740, and began almost immediately having issues with accelerating. It would accelerate to full speed, and then once coming to a stop, it would bog down, and not accelerate past 35. After replacing many things, such as the fuel pump and timing belt, we spoke with a Volvo expert who told us about the Air Temperature Sensor. Once replaced, the car was working perfectly, and yet just a couple days later, the same issue began to happen. Although it's entirely possible we received a faulty Air Temperature Sensor, I was wondering if there's anything that could possibly make it burn out or fail? Any answers would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

If you have an air temp sensor, I'm assuming you have the Regina ignition. Have him check the MAP sensor.
