I just recently(last couple months) bought a volvo 740 GLE, 1987, 270000 km. I was aware that the non-turbo models of this car lacked the horsepower possessed by the turbo, but I'm still disappointed with the pure gutlessness of this car. So I'm simply curious, what kind of small modifications can I make to squeeze a little more power out? I don't expect to do the quarter mile in 12 seconds, but i would like to be able to merge without taking considerable time. Any tips or advice appreciated.

 

Well the NA will be more of a challenge to get MORE power, compared to the turbo models....

Ummm... try an exhaust, cold air intake (though it is mostly for show and sound), and some tunning chips for the ecu/icu. Now I can't say first hand on what gains will be, but My friend has a NA 740 with a custom header and 2.75" exhaust, and some other things...it seemed to keep up pretty good the last cruise he attended with us.

 

+T it and you will be a lot happier. Also, it will cost you less money.
