Default Wagon Rear Wiper et al.

1993 240 Wagon rear wiper is inop. Pushing the switch makes a noise somewhere, maybe front and back?? But wiper does not move. License plate lights and 3rd brake lite OK., so some power is geting into the door.I removed the panel and see the wiper motor and also see four wires with removable plugs but can't seem to figure out how to getto the motor. Diagnosable? Fixable?
Also: I jumped the posts per instructions on the water temp gauge (with IPD fixer) but it is still inop. Next step?
Odo new gear fixed it AFTER I pushed the odo button...wierd.
I havent payed attention to cars since my SAAB Sonnet days. This is fun, maybe more if I can figure this out.
Any help appreciated.

Rear Wiper: check to see if shaft is rusted up tightto itssleeve -behind the rubber grommet (usually from lack of use).
if so, take offshaft nut, pry off arm, clean, de-burr and grease it up good.
