Default Wanted: Stock rear springs for a 7/9 wagon

I'd like to get some REGULAR rear springs, not lowering, not overload, for my 740 wagon. Maybe someone put a lowering kit on their 7/9 wagon or something, and has the old springs lying around....

I've gotten them before at the JY when I wanted wagon rear springs to put in a sedan for a little extra capacity.

hmm. I've never done the junkyard thing, and the nearest junkyards are like 40 miles away or something. I also know that a LOT of 740 wagon owners went for overload springs, so I'd give a random junkyard 7/9 wagon a 50% chance of having stock springs.

also, after removing the rear springs, WTF do you get the jack out from under the now collapsed car? or do you just leave it sitting on handy junk?

I assume your question relates to what to do with the car in the JY after removing the springs. I know the JYs around me don't even want people jacking up cars due to the liability. But if you do, usually you can find spare tires or rims laying around and use them to hold the car up.

There is the full service JY, as opposed to the DIY, which is a good alternative for those who don't want to muss up their hair. There will charge more but when it comes to things like springs it may be worth the couple of extra bucks. These days with the prices of these cars so low, yards don't ask for much for 7/900 parts.
I love rummaging through Pick n Pulls, never know what you'll find, and what justification you will need to explain why you drug home yet another part for "just in case"...

can someone with a 740/940 wagon with stock rear springs do me a favor, and take a dial caliber and measure the thickness of the rear spring 'wire' ? my overload springs measure about 0.48" thick.

At the Pull-a-Part self-service type JYs, all the cars are up on wheels. That is, the frame points are resting on wheels, so the car is already supported up in the air. No jack needed (for a 740). One of the many things I like about the 740 is that R/R the rear springs is so easy.

The turbo 940 at the junkyard near me looked like it had full rear suspension. You want it?

if you have a dial caliber (or digital caliber...) measure the spring wire thickness before removing the rear springs... if the wire is 0.48" thick, they are the heavy duty or overlaod springs, I got those already. if they are thinner than that, then they are the stock springs, so if they aren't too rusty, and you can pull them, and we can figure out how to ship etc for a sane price, I'm happy to pay you a reasonable amount + shipping.

Pierce, if I install the overload spring like the wagons have on a 940 sedan will the ride be affected much. I have considered installing them but have been worried with the final results.

my wagon ride is a bit harsher than I'd like, but its probably a factor of several things...

1) 16" Hydra wheels
2) HD/Overload rear springs
3) IPD Swaybars front and rear
4) Bilstein TC shocks

oh, I'm not sure you should sue wagon overload springs on a sedan. I believe sedans have lighter springs to start with.

if you occasionally load your car heavy, you might consider installing Airlift airbags that fit inside the springs. if you leave them at 10psi, they don't change a thing. inflate them to 35 or even 50PSI, and they level your car when you have a heavy load.

Thanks Pierce, I will definitely look into the Airlift lift airbags.

I'll see if I can't get out there early next week (Monday or Tuesday) and go at measuring them.

you want the 80753 kit for a 7/9 wagon, at least, probably for a sedan too. the 80 kits are normally for front springs, but this one fits the rear springs on the 7/9 wagon per Airlift. I found them for about $80 on fleabay or amazon or something. I haven't done my install yet
