Hey guys,

My room mate just picked up a nice 88 740 turbo sedan.

Picked it up for 600 bucks as we told the guy it wasn't boosting.

When we got it home we realised that the wastegate actuator had popped off.

So we got it back on and first just popped it on and took it for a drive. Made boost twice then popped off again. SO we tried making a "cap" with "Quick Steel" the 2 part epoxy log like mighty putty.

Let that set up completely and took it for a drive. Lasted a little longer but still popped off.

How the heck is that thing supposed to stay on? Is it a clip like either of these? We couldn't see a hole to hold a circlip or a recess for an eclip.

If so what's the diameter I need?

 

I assume you're talking about the rod coming off. Use Safety wire, You can also uses a circlip, but safety wire will do just as good a job.

 

Damn, that's exactly the diagram we were looking for. (I'm the roomate who just bought the car). I couldn't find a hole in the pin to put a wire through; I had already tried using a bit of wire to slip through the hole. We might try it again during the daytime today.

Well got an eclip on there and its holding! The smallest cotterpin I could find I could not go through the hole.

I'll check that website out too.
