Water pump

Default Water pump

I got a 740 gl 1990- i got noise under hood and a leak under the water pump. Do any one know what it could be?

It's possible that it's the water pump. Just before the water pump on my 240 seized up, the engine sounded a bit louder than usual.

+1 Often the bearings in the pump will start rattling before it fails. You might try listening closely; often a length of vacuum hose can be used as a makeshift stethoscope.

Check the underside of the pump's snout for the "weep hole" (probably one on top too). If there's coolant dribbling from it, the seals have gone, the coolant has washed the lube out of the bearings, and the pump could self-destruct any time (usually 50 miles from anywhere, with no Cellphone reception).

That's pretty much where he lives!! Also...the noise, if in the same area as the pump, could very well be the timing belt tensioner. They can get quite noisy when near the end of their service life.
