Default Water Pump Stud

I guess when one thing goes wrong it all goes wrong. I had everything together and drove the car most of the day today with no issues or leaks at all. I got home and was later told by my wife there was a large puddle under the car. I found that the seal on the coolant bypass tube got ripped. So I started to take the water pump off so I could replace the seal and found that I had a hard time getting the nut off the stud for the water pump. After putting a screwdriver behind the nut I finally got the nut off and the water pump off but found that the stud was totally stripped out. I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to get the stud off so I can replace it. It's the stud on the right side which is next to the timing belt.

I greatly appreciate all the help you guys have been giving me.

I believe the studs can be screwed out. I would use a Vise-Grip; tighten down the jaws on the stud and rotate it out counterclockwise.

Good luck!

If it isn't too late...spritz a little PB Blaster or other penetrant on the stud first. Again, if you have a propane torch, you could judiciously heat the stud a bit. They do just screw in and out. Vise Grips are great if the stud is already FUBAR'd...what you don't want to do is break it off...hence the PB. That seal gets cut quite often. Next time, place it on the water pipe rather than laying it on the pump.

As stated it is best to have the seal on the pipe when installing the pump. Be careful not to over-torque the nuts and bolts.
