Default Weird 240 Valve Cover Gasket issue

So I ordered an engine gasket kit from Fcpeuro or Eeuroparts...one of those guys and all the gaskets fit except for the valve cover gasket...it was too wide and not the right amount of holes.. so I went to O’reilly auto parts and they pulled one for me according to he Year make and model of the car and I get it home and it’s the same thing.. what am I missing here?

what year 240? B230F engine, or one of the earlier ones (B21F, B20F, etc) ? ok, I see ABS plumbing there, so its gotta be a B230F, huh.

Check again
Make sure it's the right way around then fit it over the cam shaft humps
I'll bet you after it's held in place, it'll be exactly the right size.
I use some RTV to hold it in place on the head before fitting the cover, otherwise it's a pain to line up

its pretty standard to put little dabs of Permatex or whatever in the corners of the cam bearing carriers.

my mechanic shop suggested soaking it a few minutes to make it more supple. i tried that and forgot about it for like an hour and it grew in size. by the time I had it installed I had chunks missing and had to use permatex on both sides.. that worked but Ill curse myself when and if if I remove it again and have to clean the stuff off both sides. the stock volvo one I had didn't seem like very good gasket material..it's a bit of a pain to deal with, so fragile. maybe there is a better quality one?

Make one from gasket sheets. Sold at Auto parts stores.
