Default Weird Gauge Behavior

Recently the gauges on my 1990 740 Turbo have gotten lazy first start of the day. They all stay at rest position (the fuel gauge, the ammeter, the temperature gauge) when the car is first started in the morning. I then have to give the top of the dash a good, open-palmed, "whap" to get them to read accurately. They will then behave normally during the rest of the day regardless of the amount of time elapsed between starts. It is just the morning/overnight sitting that is a contributing factor to this condition. Any ideas? Do they all draw ground from the same spot? Its a really annoying problem.
