Well I got under the car today and the mount seems better than I remembered. For future reference can the jack that came with the 240 be used for replacing the mount? It's all I have.

For now the service light can wait a couple days. I'm going to leave the cluster in for a while and see if the dang odometer resets and starts counting miles. It's been cleaned and has had a new gear but to no avail.

I had a very bad experience using a jack to raise the engine and that was using a 3 ton floor jack. Using the cheap jack the car comes with would be a nightmare.

The bottom of the oil pan on these cars is quite round so not the most secure place to try and jack. It is much easier if you use an engine hoist. Kind of big to store but not terribly expensive, and you might be able to rent one.

Once I got the lift replacing the mounts was pretty simple although being triple jointed would still be helpful.

I know there are a lot of people who say using a jack to do this job is simple, but personally I'm happy to pay a little more for peace of mind before I start crawling around under 300lbs of marginally supported engine block.

Use only Volvo genuine mounts!!!

My aftermarket broke in less than a year. Diesel mounts if you can.
