Where is the Idle Control Valve?
89 240 DL, she's been idling rough and slow lately, Heard it might be a faulty Idle control valve. Anyone heard of this and where would it be located? How do you increase idle speed? Thanks! Dave
daver80, It is like my 740 the idle control motor is located under the intake man. towareds the firewall. Motor is about a 1" tube with "T" towards frot of car with 2 hoses attached and wire harness on the fire wall side. I used carb cleaner on mine, make sure you open the spring loaded valve (gently, with small screwdriver) and spray well. I also sprayed plenty in body with valve closed, covered other hole with my hand and shook well. Outcome was a much smother idle. Hope this helps.
On the 240s (at least on the b21 engines) the idle control valve is located directly on top of the engine block between the engine and the intake manifold. If you open up the hood its basically the highest thing in the engine compartment right in the middle. It is a black or maybe silver cylonder about 3 inches in diameter and 5 inches high with two rubber hoses coming out of either side and a wire with connector directly on top. I would try spraying some carb cleaner in there to clean it out and then some WD40 to lube it all up good.
gforce- heres a photo, is this the thing you are talking about? 2 hoses coming out of front, plug coming out of back. Engine is B230F. Thanks! dave

G Force-I cleaned her up, lots of black soot in there, new rotor, oil change, after warm up she seems to stay nice and strong at idle. I'm not gonna celebrate just yet, but... Thanks for your advice, I think I got it! dave
