Default Whiney fuel pump.

My fuel pump is beginning to whine. My fuel filter is very old and I’m about to replace it, could that be causing the fuel pump to whine? This summer when I was a little short on money* and gas prices were pretty high, I had a tendency to let the car run out of fuel, could that have damaged it?

*Hence the purchase of a five-hundred-dollar Volvo station wagon with which I promptly fell in love.

Usually if the main pump under the car is whining that means the intank pump is not working.

Are there two fuel pumps on all years? I’ve got a ’75 and my repair manual says I’ve only got one, outside the tank. Also: do 240s have two fuel filters?

Some have 2 pumps not 100% sure about the 75 year car. I know my 82 with CI injection had 2.
I think it only has 1 filter as well.
