Default Will these wheels fit?

I'm looking to pick up a set of 18 inch 5x108 rims that came off an S40, to fit on my 240. If I get 31mm spacers for the rear, and 25mm spacers for the front, and the tire width is 225/40R/18, will they be direct bolt on and fit nicely, will they rub, or will they not work at all?

Thanks

By the way the car is lowered on ipd springs

I doubt many people have tried that specific combination, and can give you a definitive answer. IPD suggests a max 225/45-17.

I will say, 18" rims with /40 tires on a 240 will have an AWFUL ride on bad pavement. the live axle RWD 240/740/940 suspension just isn't compliant enough and has too much unsprung weight for those sorts of skinny sidewalls... Do be sure the tire size you're looking at has a load factor compatible with the 240 (it should be the same or slightly higher, never lower).

The 240 has +20 mm wheel offset with a 65.1 mm bore [1], while the S40's used two different hub wheel mount, 42 mm offset and 67.1 mm bore from 2000-2004, and 43 mm offset with a 63.1 mm bore from 2004.5-2008 [2]

these are bore centered wheels, so the exact bore is critical. the early S40 wheels will be loose, while the late ones won't fit at all. OH, those early S40's used 4-bolt, so you MUST have a late one.

with a live axle car, the offset is important in the front, or your steering goes funky, so 43-20 == 23mm spacer. in the rear, its less important, it just impacts the rear axle track.

Thank you for the input, sounds like these wheels will not work. So it sounds like my max wheel size can be 17s. Do I need to have exactly 23mm spacers, or will 1 inch spacers/adapters (25mm) work too?

Only reason I ask is because my buddy offered up a set of 5x100 225/40/17 and I found 1 inch adapters online.

a couple mm either way is close enough for jazz, unless your wheels are getting really close to the struts or wheel wells. 740/940 wheels were 25mm vs 20mm for 240, and folks regularlly use these on 240's.

when you go for extreme tire sizes, the tough one to verify is whether they will rub at full suspension compression simultaneously with full stop turns. powering and braking hard while going around a full stop turn and going over mild speed bumps in a parking lot might verify this.

I have 205/15 and I rub. I need rear bushings badly tho.

I rub hard when I hit driveway slopes.

My 240 has wheels from a 760 Turbo.

I have 205/55-16 on Hydras on my 740 turbovagen, and they work perfectly under all conditions, with stock springs, all new bushings, and bilstein touring shocks.

not real happy with the ride quality with the bilsteins, but it also could be the 16's vs the stock 15s, I dunno. or the ipd sway bars. or the rear overload springs (the fcpeuro version)... otoh, the wagen handles pretty damn good on gnarly mountain roads of which we have a lot. and it DOES ride nicely when its very heavily loaded with gear, like on one of our couple-times-a-year week long camping runs.
