Is it worth it?

Yes, it can be worth it. It depends on some things,, though. Do you have the requisite basic skills and tools along with a sheltered place to keep the car as it is being worked on in your spare time? Your skills will improve as more and more difficult things arise. Is this a spare car that is not needed as a daily driver?
Our 240 came into our family as a first car for my 17 y/o son. We spent some quality time working on the car. I liked it too much to let it go when he bought an Audi; so it became my daily driver. That was 13 years and 150, 000 miles ago.

The only thing I'd look at is body/chassis rust which could compromise safety. Other than that, I can't think of anything that couldn't be solved with a rebuild or refurbish. Parts are generally available (start building your book marks). If I were to do a 240 wagon, I'd drop a small block V8 in it (check out jagsthatrun.com ) but that's cause I'm from that generation :-)
