Default 1988 760 with IRS needs new shocks

Our 1988 "760" (It is a turbo 4 not a V6) has leaking Nivomat shocks and I have only been able to find a single used shock.

Are there more economical alternatives to the Nivomats?

Is there a good source for used Nivomats or does anyone have any?

What is involved in converting to conventional shocks?

What are the disadvantages of converting to conventional shocks?

Just convert it regular shocks-IPD carries a kit... no problem, no disadvantages...

I found a Nivomat on ebay which was described as a "Volvo 960 gas strut, (rear shock absorber)". I compared the photograph on ebay with the one on the car, they matched, I bought the strut (£43.95 including delivery) and had it fitted by the garage doing the MoT (roadworthiness test). The word "Nivomat" wasn't used in the advert.

I had to wait a couple of days for one to be listed, but the exercise was successful.

Can't comment on converting to conventional suspension.
